Let Tom's current age be y
But in 2 years time (y + 2), Tom will be twice is age five years ago (y - 5)
(y + 2) = 2 x (y - 5)
y + 2 = 2y - 10
2 + 10 = 2y - y
12 = y

So, Tom is currently 12

Answer: 12
